SEC BRUNCH
In November I had a chance to visit Sec Brunch. A few months earlier, I passed by it and noticed that the food looks attractive. I noted it on my google map and came back with a friend after some time. This time I realized it was not easy to find this place. The name of it is not so distinguishable and you have to know where you are going not to accidently miss it.
At the entrance, we met a waiter who was kind and explained that just one table inside and another table outside are the only ones available at the moment. We chose the table outside because the one inside was looking very uncomfortable with no place for legs. Just a coffee table in my opinion. It did not suit us since we were planning to order food. The tables outside are located very close to the road and shops. Our luck there was not big traffic.
Let’s remember that was a November. They didn`t offer blankets or heaters. Some of the seats had no warm pillows. They offered us an inside table as soon one opened up. We agreed and the waiter easily moved what we had on a table to the new one. I have noticed there was a rather uncomfortable steps leading to inside the restaurant. To get inside with a stroller would be a bit of a quest. The mission to get inside in a wheelchair seems impossible. One more inconvenience is the handle on the door. When you leave the cafe, you have to get used to this handle to open it. Need to scroll it to open the door.
Inside they have a very nice stylized interior which contains tables with chairs for different tastes. Some of them looked very strange to me because sitting next to it is uncomfortable. Thought some walls just look unfinished or collapsed. The toilet is pretty small but very clean and smells nice. It was odd that there is just one sink for 2 toilets. Next to the toilet comes the second hall, which I did not get to discover.
They are very attentive to details. On the tables were natural flowers in vases. At the same time, there was no place to leave outerwear, or maybe they just did not offer it to us.
The food there was very nice served and tasty. We ordered Nachos Sec, Benedict, and Provolone to eat. Lemonade and water to drink. It was not typical Spanish food. Very fancy looking. Especially amazing was a flower on the top of the lemonade. It was unexpected and cute. One more surprise was the water in the tetra pack.
We did share all the food and I can tell you that the Provolone dish surprised me. After reading the menu I expected a bit of a different dish. Anyway, it was very tasty. It was a small deep bowl of cheese with homemade sun-dried tomato pesto, black olives, basil, and avocado slices at the bottom. We were putting cheese on toast or just dipped toast in a bowl. I found this cute.
I will not tell much about Nachos because I did not like them much in general. I think it would be nicer to have a bit less of a mess on the plate with them. we were not able to finish it, and when the big pieces of Nachos ended the dish become just a mess on the plate. What was unusual about it is that pieces of mango inside. The combination with the hot peppers though was a very strange combination. They should have asked how spicy we prefer our food. We were avoiding pieces of pepper and left them on the plate.
What about Benedict, this was not very special. For me, it was almost without any taste. Did not enjoy the taste of yolk and did not feel the taste of turkey inside (there is an option to choose between turkey, salmon, or ham). It had lamb`s lettuce on the top which made it look attractive. I like Benedict’s eggs because the yolk leaks out of them. This is an important part of this dish, which I missed at this brunch place. I would rate this dish 3 out of 5, as a brunch place has to be an expert in cooking eggs. The good thing about it is that there are two separate eggs on crusty bread. You can easily share it with your friend.
The waiter was so kind and attentive, which added a special charm to the atmosphere. He did not abruptly pick up empty plates but in advance, he specified whether it was possible to pick them up. Also, it is worth noting that we did not wait a lot of time for our order. It was all served in timely manner.
This is a nice place for meeting with friends. Quiet and not so big. You can hear each other which is important and rare in cafes in Barcelona. It’s Located quite far from the subway. Even when it is so close to Spain square. This is not a tourist area. If you are passing close to a Brunch place and want to have brunch, I recommend it. In reality, this place is not as special as It looks at first glance. While it has a different type of food than most cafes in Barcelona, the taste was nothing to write home about. This is a very nice place for tourists who stay close to it. The price is average and you can read the menu online in advance. They have a menu in Spanish and English.
